Albertina & Walter Sisulu Institute of Ageing in Africa/Geriatric Medicine
The Division of Geriatric Medicine was established in 1987 when the Health Professions Council of South Africa registered the University of Cape Town as a training centre for geriatric medicine.
Locally, the division collaborates closely with other units in the Faculty of Health Sciences that have a specific focus on ageing, like Gerontology and Psychogeriatrics.
The division runs a Stroke Unit in collaboration with the Neurology Department and provides consultant cover to rehabilitation services at Conradie Hospital.
