"Jeffery Dumo Baqwa served as the first Professor of Primary Healthcare at the University of Cape Town from 1995 until his untimely death in 2001 at the age of 50 years. As an anti-apartheid activist, a public health professional and an academic physician, he committed his life to the attainment of our full humanity through the Black Consciousness Philosophy, the realisation of health for all, and the education of a new generation of socially-aware health professionals. His deep compassion in working for the eradictation of poverty will continue to inspire us for generations to come."
On 26 April, conference rooms 1 and 2 was renamed the Jeffrey Dumo Baqwa Room.
