In an effort to grow training in family medicine, the Division of Family Medicine has had a “Twinning Partnership” with the University of Namibia (UNAM) as part of the University of Ghent’s Primafed initiative to stimulate partnerships between South African Departments of Family Medicine and their counterparts in SADC countries.

Public health project empowers communities to address their needs

Communities in South Africa are beset by multiple social problems that affect health. People struggle to find employment, children grow up in unsafe environments, food insecurity is rife, violence is pervasive and impacts on health and well-being, yet the service delivery needs at local government level are tremendous.

Climate change and health

A new chapter written by Dr Rebecca Garland of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and Associate Professor Hanna-Andrea Rother from UCT's School of Public Health and Family Medicine (SPHFM) is putting the health of southern Africans on the global climate change agenda.
